Artist Biography

I was 8 years old when I picked up my first knife and have been carving and making stuff ever since. I also discovered hammers, shovels, saws and many other tools. So I grew up continuously making and destroying things all along the way but creating sculpture has been my life-long passion. Ever since the time I nearly burned down the church next door at the age of 5, I have known that I was a Pyromaniac ……so building kilns and furnaces and experimenting with gas burners for firing pottery and melting metal has been a fulfilling lifestyle during many years of teaching Art in High School and Middle School and developing Rock Ridge Artworks.

There are probably thousands of my former students and adults with sculptures, drawings and paintings in their homes that they produced in my classes or bought at shows or in galleries.

My experience with bronze casting began in 1966 as a student working on an Art degree in Sculpture at California State College in Long Beach, California . I taught High School and Middle School Art for 27 years in Hesperia and Apple Valley, California; Corvallis, Montana; Kamehameha Schools, Honolulu, Hawaii and Aramco Schools in Saudi Arabia. I also taught Elementary School and have a Master’s in Administration.

Along with the usual art curriculum, I taught jewelry design and silver casting and developed and operated a bronze foundry in Hesperia High School. I also threw pottery and built clay sculpture, which we sold in shows and galleries in Western Montana.

After retiring from Saudi Aramco Schools in Saudi Arabia, Anita and I settled in Florence, Montana where I am currently operating a foundry and designing and completing my latest bronze pieces. I really enjoy every step of the foundry production of Art Bronze.
