Artist Biography
Hello, pottery fans! I am a recently retired veteran that has begun to pursue one of my passions, making art! This is an exciting transition time for me to continue to grow and develop. I have always loved art. I grew up with a very artistically creative mother and innovative father, and quickly discovered my enjoyment with painting. My family heritage on both sides has strong Norwegian roots. I grew up engaging in many beloved Scandinavian traditions such as making lefse, krumkake and kringla at the holidays, and, yes, even eating some lutefisk every year on Christmas Eve. In addition to these annual events, rosemaled artwork decorated my families' homes. From ornate plates, to trunks, to wooden household objects; rosemaling surrounded me. Growing up I took every art class my high school offered from drawing to painting and eventually ceramics. Additionally, throughout my college years I took many art classes, but several years ago, I decided to pursue a dream of mine in learning to rosemal. My mother asked me what I wanted for Christmas one year, and I asked for beginning rosemaling books and brushes. Thanks to the instructional guidance of Sigmund Aarseth and Diane Edwards' books, I was off and running. In addition to learning to rosemal, I began taking classes in pottery studios. I have enjoyed the process of learning to use glazes in rosemaling and applying this beautiful art to ceramic pieces, in addition to wooden artwork. I am in my early years of becoming a potter and rosemaler, but am excited to spend my years continuing to stretch my creative wings in these mediums. Although, I have much to learn still, I am excited to continue the tradition of rosemaling and create, share, and offer rosemaled artwork to those that find enjoyment in it as well.
